My inspirations…
Thought I should post up a little message on here listing the moments in life that I saw a piece of work and thought “I’d like to do something like that” or “Thats really good!”. I’ll list it in order of section.
One Shot
For my one shot, the only real inspirations I had was all the advertisements. I really didn’t get on with the One Shot. I think its possibly due to almost my enitre group not really being that interested from the beginning and as I wasn’t either I think it limited how excited you could get about the project.
Interactive Narrative
Well, the first person who really inspired me to create a comicesque narrative was a student on the Multimedia Course, Hayley Jennings (http://hayleyatuni.blogspot.com/) Who created Mallet Girl. I found the comic to be really fun, well made and ofcourse a nice idea!
The main idea was inspired from the spider man movies in which Peter Parker becomes spider man via a bite from a spider.
Now with the one I am currently working on (No ETA on that one I’m afraid, I’ve been working on it for about two weeks and its still not fully finished) is taken from a few different peoples work.
Firstly someone whom I’ve already listed Alan Becker (the creator of Animation vs Animator) really inspired me to do something based around using the desktop as a fight scene. There is another flash film based around this but unfortunately I can’t remember the name and also can’t seem to find it. For this specific narrative the main character will be a ninja, in the style of the old video games (sega mega drive and older) and as with all good ninja related comics will be seeking to kill the man who killed his father. He’ll be doing this via a series of jumping through program icons (taking the basis from the windows 7 pinning to task bar, and the standard task bar for macs) and dependant on which is chosen he’ll fight a different monster. I’m currently looking into coding which will add up the number of monsters he’s faught so the boss comes at the end rather than a guessing game as to where the boss is… More on that later!
Animation
Oddly enough my final animation peice was inspired from an episode of Scrubs, in which JD picks up a can of fizzy drink and opens it inside a car, the can explodes and far more than what could possibly fit inside a can comes out:

(Skip to around 45 seconds to avoid a wait for the scene)
This triggered my original thought about the bottle and a lot coming out of it. The post-its spelling “create” on the wall came from a very well known stop-motion animation from a co-creation by:
Directed by Bang-yao Liu
Music by Röyksopp (http://royksopp.com)
Sound design by Ian Vargo, Shaun Burdick
Actor: Chun-yao Huang
This animation essentially used someones thoughts to appear on the wall in post its, something I wanted to originally recreate (two people having a mental game of pong) but for some reason I had great difficulty getting the post-its to stay attatched to the wall (mainly after being removed and then moved) but I still took a small section from it:

So thats who has so far inspired my work. I’m sure there’ll be many more in the future as I’m researching animators and web designers as that’s where my main interest lays.
